>>>First of all, THANK YOU!!!!!! Your donations last month were terrific, and we were able to give each of our families a turkey and all the fixings for Thanksgiving dinner. We even had a few turkeys left over, which will be given out on a first come first served basis.
>>>Several large food drives by schools, organizations, and businesses have kept our shelves well-stocked for the holidays, and we are so grateful for this support from the community.
>>>If you inadvertently delete our email, remember that you can always come here to the blog for the list of requested items, and to the website www.cantonfoodpantry.com for information about drop off times and locations, etc.
>>>We've had success on Facebook (there's a link to the right). We have over 100 friends, and have received some nice donations.
>>>Again, a big thank you to all our friends, supporters, and volunteers. Without you we would be unable to do what we do. We hope you have a wonderful holiday season with friends and family.

November 2009
We've been busy - we have a website and we're on facebook - links to the right
--Last month there were 2 Mondays that we were not open for food drop-offs. We apologize for any inconvenience this caused, and although this is uncommon, we've taken Monday mornings off the schedule, but we added Tuesday mornings from 8:30-9:00am. If you want to take a chance on Monday mornings, we are usually there starting at 7am for an hour or two, but don't hold us to it, OK?
--People have been asking us about Thanksgiving. We will be distributing turkeys and all the fixings for Thanksgiving to our clients on Sat. Nov. 21st. Most of the items will be purchased at he Boston Food Bank at greatly reduced prices, but typically they do not have stuffing, desserts, and breads, so we will be asking our friends to donate those items in an email to be sent out in a couple of weeks. By the way, and I'm sure you understand, but we cannot accept home made items - everything has to be store bought.
--There is one more way you can help us if you'd prefer not to go shopping. You could help us provide a dinner for a family by sending a check (any amount) to Canton Area Helpline, PO Box 202, Canton, MA 02021, and in the memo line please write THANKSGIVING DINNER.
Hoping you have a wonderful Thanksgiving with friends and family.

October 2009
Dear Friends,
We are open one Saturday a month so that we can accommodate working families, and this morning I was able to meet those clients as they came in for groceries. All are struggling to make ends meet and trying to provide for their children. We thank you for your role in helping us help them. We are looking for a volunteer to do computer data entry and interact with clients. You will be trained to do intake interviews, and enter weekly statistics as clients shop. It is very simple work for anyone who can do data entry and likes working with people. You need to be available on Wednesdays from 9:00 -11:30am. Please email cantonfoodpantry@gmail if you'd like to give it a try. Thanks so much for your support of our pantry. Last month we received many food donations and enjoyed meeting new donors dropping off on Mondays.

September 2009
--Please forward this to your Canton family and friends
--We are looking for someone who can update our very old, very out of date website
Dear Friends,
The Canton Food Pantry clients and volunteers thank your for agreeing to be on our email distribution list! Your kindness is greatly appreciated. Many of our families come for a few weeks or months at a time, tand then when they can get by without us we don't see them. So now we are seeing new families for the first time, and the return of some past ones, as school opens and budgets are stretched to the limit. Most of us can identify with parents trying to outfit the kids with a new backpack or pair of sneakers, and can understand how hard it must be not only not to be able to do that, but to not be able to put food on the table. I met a woman last week who had not eaten the day before because she had so little food she wanted to make sure her daughter had enough. She was let go from her job, had not found a new one, and unemployment had not started yet. It felt really good to be able to help her in such an ordinary way, and she cried when she saw the groceries she was able to take home. Thank you for helping us help her.

The Canton Food Pantry is collecting email addresses for a distribution list. They would like to email people when there is an urgent need. Their plan is to limit the emails to once a month or so. If you try being on the list and then later want to get off the list, that's not a problem. To be added to the distribution list, please send and email to cantonfoodpantry@gmail.com. (If you would like to forward this to other Canton residents that would be great)
